Why Should You Consider Volunteering As A GED Tutor?
Why Should You Consider Volunteering As A GED Tutor?GED tutoring programs offer you a way to earn an Associate's or Bachelor's degree and save yourself a lot of money while doing it. There are some really good reasons to consider this option. Most college students never finish high school because of the expense involved, and the enormous time commitment that it requires. They choose to go to college because they have to, but never because they want to. GED tutoring is a great way to study and graduate without spending the time needed to get there.Needing a GED is not a decision you should make lightly. You need to take some time to research your options before making your final decision. The certificate from a GED tutoring program will cost you less than a traditional college education. In many cases, the tuition price is far less than what you would pay for an online education. While an education might be more costly, you can use the scholarship money you receive for the fee of the pr ogram to help pay off some of your debts. If you are worried about how the payments will be handled, it's very likely that there will be no large financial obligation left to worry about once you graduate. For those who attend school part time, working part time may be the best option. If you are serious about going back to school for GED certification, it will pay to see if you qualify for some type of grant. There are many different federal programs that will assist low income students. It is likely that there will be a very specific program for GED students that you qualify for. Make sure that you complete the application for free as well as the payment of your application fee.If you already graduated from high school, consider applying for a GED program because they can also give you a certification after you've completed a certain amount of credits. Some schools have the option to be able to offer this.GED tutoring can be a great alternative to attending college. With this optio n, you can earn a degree at a fraction of the cost of attending college.

Beginner Pianists Tricks for Learning Scales
Beginner Pianists Tricks for Learning Scales Tips for playing scales for learning to play piano ChaptersWhat is a piano scale?Whatâs the difference between major scales and minor scales?Learn piano scales in these stepsWhy learning scales is necessary for becoming a pianistLearning to play the piano requires three main things: solfege, basic chords and piano scales! It also helps to find a good piano teacher to teach you how to play! The beginner pianist who masters a progression of three or four magical whole chords â" those that appear in most piano songs and are composed of the same chord groupings of c, a, g, and f â" and who knows how to use this for improvisation has already acquired a solid base in playing the piano.Whether you play on a piano or keyboard, itâs the repetition of scales that will allow a beginner pianist to unknot the fingers and advance his or her right hand-left hand coordination. To begin to play the piano or advance to the next level in playing, a musician has to slowly repeat the notes in a chord on the keyboard played with the left hand, and li ttle by little, with the right hand, harmonize the notes that âsoundâ good to the ear: this is how to create a melody in beginning piano! You can even do this with easy piano songs. But you should memorize the patterns of these notes to avoid playing the wrong notes. Thatâs why itâs very important to learn solfege, or how to read sheet music, and that itâs necessary â" even vital â" to learn your piano scales by heart. (After the scales weâll go on to reading music: what is the different between quarter notes and half notes, etc.)So what is a scale anyway? How do you memorize piano scales? How do you improvise with piano scales? These are questions that Superprof is setting out to answer in this article. This way, youâll master how to play your piano scales. Youâll be playing those arpeggios like Mozart in no time at all! So no student can dream of mastering the piano after just a few music classes. Music is no simple endeavor!Like any other academic class you might take, youâll have to work hard and practice if you really want to learn to play the piano. Start with easy piano songs and finding that middle C before advancing to harder piano music! To become more advanced, you must keep yourself motivated. Retaining a sense of discipline will force you to work on and practice basic things regularly and at a sl ow tempo. In an octave, where are the keys and half keys?In music theory, a scale is a series of musical tones â" minor or major â" going up or down in pitch in fixed steps. A scale that rises in pitch is an ascending scale and one that lessens in pitch is a descending scale. This gets somewhat complicated as you learn how to play the piano:If you take the C scale for instance, it includes seven notes, plus the higher octave: c-d-e-f-g-a-b-c. The C major scale includes six pitches or note intervals (the space between each piano key).A pitch or key corresponds to the passage between two white keys on the piano keyboard, a half-pitch represents the movement from a white key to a black key, which will mean either a sharp or a flat. So the scale of C can also be understood as: pitch, pitch, half-pitch, pitch, pitch, pitch, half-pitch.Like a mathematical calculation, to play the piano you need to measure the distance between notes. And this is easy on the piano, each time that you chan ge from one piano key to the next, count a half-pitch or key higher or lower. At thatâs why, on the keyboard, there is just a half-key between the E and the F, or between the B and the C.Now, in harmony, the intervals in the scale of C major are:The tonic (c, first degree),The second (d, second degree),The third (e, third degree),The fourth (f, fourth degree),The fifth (g, fifth degree),The sixth (a, sixth degree),The seventh (b, seventh degree),The octave (c).This is the harmonic degree of the harmonic major scale: the place of the note in its musical scale. Pop quiz! What is the chord in the fifth degree of the C major scale? What corresponds to the A chord in the scale of C major? Thanks to these basic solfege tidbits, you can play all the major and minor scales on your piano keyboard.Whatâs the difference between major scales and minor scales? For the beginner pianist, this question might seem a bit difficult. But in reality, itâs just a question of different sonorities.Cer tain scales are called major scales and others are minor scales â" this just depends on the different note intervals, the way in which you divide the keys and half-keys in an octave. To learn to play piano scales, it will help to have a keyboard in front of you!To keep this simple, remember that a minor scale gives you a melancholic and nostalgic coloring to the piano piece and melody. A major scale will have the opposite effect, in its more joyous sounding ring. How is your ear training?Everything you need to know about the major scalesThe C-major scale is the first modern major scale, known in ancient times as the Ionian Mode.To play a major scale on the piano, you just need to follow one fundamental rule. You must always respect the interval of the major mode following: key, key, half-key, key, key, key, half-key. So to play a scale of C major, you have to play: c-d-e-f-g-a-b-c.Youâll need to transpose it for these other major scales:Scale of D major: d-e-f#-g-a-b-c#-d,Scale o f E major: e-f#-g#-a-b-c#-d#-e,Scale of F major: f-g-a-b-c-d-e-f.And this continues as such for each tonic. To help you understand this better, we recommend getting a major scale chart.Everything you need to know about the minor scalesThe natural minor mode corresponds to the ancient mode of A, or Aeolian mode. It has a more somber feel. The scale of A minor is different from the scale of C major. Little by little, a half-pitch is introduce between the seventh and the eighth note of the scale â" the leading tone â" in order to imitate the mode of C major, and this creates the minor harmonic scale! For example, the note B is the leading tone â" the note of the seventh degree â" of the C major and C minor scales. Then, the progression to the sixth degree â" the key of A flat â" to the seventh degree â" the key of B â" gives a nostalgic ring to the C minor scale. Well we never said it was easy to learn to play piano! And for each major scale, there is a corresponding minor scale.L earn piano scales in these stepsItâs no secret: if you want to learn to play the piano and piano scales, you have to work, practice, and work some more.Repeating your piano scales can be frustrating!Who has never heard a neighbor or family member tirelessly repeat the same crescendos and falling patterns of notes? Well those, those are scalesâ¦Here are several handy steps for you to play your scales correctly and keep making progress:Play 15 to 20 minutes of scales every day. This canât be said enough: to learn your scales by heart, itâs better to work just 20 minutes a day rather than do everything in one big practice session, in one day only. There are so many â" 15 major scales and 15 minor scales â" that itâs better to âattackâ them little by little, one by one. Our brain capacities will be stimulated and learn to memorize them this way. From day to day, youâll create automatic habits allowing you to improve your piano playing! Also, itâs best to master each scale before progressing to the next one.Perfect your fingering. So that you donât take on bad habits, from the time you are an absolute beginner on the piano, you should adopt the proper fingering and finger positioning. (And the proper posture for playing the piano too!) Put one finger on a key â" this will be easy for the first scale of C major, but becomes somewhat trickier for the sharps and flats â" to get through these piano exercises. This piano method will allow you to acquire dexterity in your left hand and right hand.Practice the scale of C major, then go on to all the other minor and major scales. It is the first and simplest one of all, and is only played on the white keys of the piano (c-d-e-f-g-a-b-c). Doing an ascending scale and a descending scale in C major will not only improve your musical ear, but also help you acquire speed and dexterity once youâve mastered it.Once youâve mastered your scales, your playing will be more fluid when you play your favori te piano tunes â" Bachâs Prelude, Beethovenâs Clair de Lune Sonata or Für Elise, or Mozartâs Turkish March, for example. No more âMary had a little lambâ for you!Now you know why your teacher has you play scales at the start of your piano lessons! Here are some final tricks to help you progress:Watch videos and take online piano lessons (just beware of free piano lessons!)Use a metronomeProgressively increase your tempoPlay by heart without reading sheet musicAdd chords with the left hand. Why learning scales is necessary for becoming a pianistPiano virtuosos and professional musicians didnât get to where they are by accident. To become a good pianist, and be able to express yourself artistically on the piano, you must memorize your scales and have them always on the tip of your fingers! To become a professional jazz pianist like McCoy Tyner, learning your piano scales is key!Piano scales is directly linked to solfege. Why is that? For improvisation. A good pianist who kno ws his or her minor scales and major scales will always know how to improvise on all types of songs, no matter the music genre (from classical piano to jazz piano). If you recognize the tonic of each chord youâll know how to juggle with notes and play solos, a key skill of improvisation. For musicians with a good musical ear and professional piano skills, it takes longer to read sheet music than understand it from listening. How are your sight-reading abilities? Can you play a song by ear?A final reason for learning piano scales â" we saved the best for last â" is that it will allow you to try and excel at music composition: knowing scales, chords, music theory, music notation, and different degrees will allow you to create your own music! US Trailing In Higher Education
US Trailing In Higher Education The United States is no longer the global leader in postsecondary degrees, according to an article in the The Washington Post. A postsecondary degree is any degree that one attains after high school. It could be an Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree. This trend is consistent with other findings that k-12 students in the United States are lagging behind many other foreign students. The Washington Post cited a recent report from the College Board, stating that the United States has fallen from first to 12th in the number of adults aged 25-34 with a postsecondary degree. Only 40.4 percent of adults in the aforementioned age range hold degrees, as of 2007. The report stated that Canada is now the global leader in adults with postsecondary degrees. 55.8 percent of Canadian adults have a postsecondary degree, also as of 2007. This report was presented to Capitol Hill on Thursday, July 22nd. Politicians and upper-echelon educators have posted a goal of becoming the global leader in education by 2025, with 55 percent of the adult population holding a postsecondary degree. President Barack Obama, however, has slightly different goals. His American Graduation Initiative aims at reclaiming global leadership for adults with postsecondary degrees by 2020. This report only considered young adults aged 25-34. The United States ranks sixth, globally when older adults are considered. The College Boards report is creating concern among politicians and educators because Generation Y (age group 18-34) is speculated to be the first generation in the modern era to be less-educated than their parents. However, the percentage of young adults with postsecondary degrees has actually risen from 38.1 percent in 2000 to 41.6 in 2008, according to The Washington Posts citation of census data. The report also ranked the most educated states. The District of Columbia was considered a state, and it is the most educated with 62.2 percent of adults aged 25-34 holding a postsecondary degree. Many policy-makers and education administrators are implementing programs to foster stronger education in the United States. They are recommending that state and national leaders implement universal pre-kindergarten education programs, even for low-income students. Policy-makers are pushing for more efficient college counseling programs that significantly reduce dropout rates and more streamlined college admission programs. It is believed that some of these programs could produce more college graduates.
How to Play Guitar Chords in Different Positions up the Neck
How to Play Guitar Chords in Different Positions up the Neck Megan L. Chords are the foundation of all of those guitar riffs you love so much. Here, guitar teacher Kirk R. walks you through the basics of guitar chords and the importance of knowing how theyre constructed Guitar is an amazing instrument, not only because of all that it can do, but also because of how great it can sound when not doing much at all. One of the ways that guitar is most often heard is by strumming the standard chords that beginner guitarists learn. However, I often interact with guitarists who donât realize how many other possibilities exist on the instrument. Today, weâre going to look at just one small idea that you can use to stretch basic chords and better understand why we play the chord shapes that we do. What Does It Mean When We See a Chord Symbol? Letâs start with a very basic question: what is a chord? A chord is three or more different notes played together. That means that technically a power chord is not a chord at all, because there are only two different notesbut they sound good, so lets keep using them! Notice that there was no mention of strings, frets, or guitar in that definition? Thats because when we play a G chord on the guitar, weâre playing the same three notes as when a G chord is played on a piano, by an orchestra, or in production software. Letâs take a look at this three note chord idea. If you play a G chord on your guitar like this: Youâre playing (from low to high) G-B-D-G-B-G. Yes, despite all that stretching and playing all six strings, you end up with just three notes! So when the bass in a band plays a B, the lead singer sings a G, and the tuba player plays a D, what chord do you hear? Thatâs right, a G chord! What does that mean for us guitarists? If Iâm noodling my way up the neck and then quickly have to play a G chord, jumping all the way down to the 3rd fret might not be an option. However, if I can find some combination of G, B, and D near where Iâm already at, I donât need to. How about something like this: There are tons of options that open up when you realize that every time you see a G printed over the lyrics, you donât have to do the same chord. Of course, the usual G shape wouldnât get used so much if we didnât like the sound, so if itâs convenient to get to and you like the sound, use it by all means! How to Build Guitar Chords Now that you know a little bit about how a chord works, letâs talk about how we build chords from scratch. This can get a little complicated, but stick with me Iâll keep it simple to begin with. The usual major and minor chords (if itâs just a letter without an m, itâs major) are built of just three notes like weâve seen. Notice that in the G chord theyâre also just two letters apart: G A B C D E F G Luckily, this pattern works for all chords within a key. Letâs take a look at the key of C, so we donât have to worry about sharps or flats. So what notes would we use to build a C chord? Lets take a look: C D E F G A B C So we now have our three notes, C, E and G for the C chord that we can play anywhere on the guitar. If we want to play an Am chord along with it, we can use the same pattern: C D E F G A B C uh oh, we ran out of letters. Letâs just rearrange a little bit: F G A B C D E So now we end up with A, C, and E to play anywhere we like. Here are a few examples of different sounds you can get from the Am chord: What Difference Does It Make? Hopefully you can now add a little extra flair to some songs in which the guitar part might have seemed a little boring at first glance. Perhaps youâve run into this chord progression before: C G Am G C Here are a few ways that I might have improvised the chord voicings (depending on style and context) if I were to see a progression like this. Some are faster than others, but theyâre all fairly simple if you know the basics of how to build chords on the guitar. Below are a few options for C and G chords that you could use in this progression. Remember the point isnât so much to memorize all the shapes, but to understand how these chords work so that you can find the notes of the chord anywhere that you need them. Now itâs your turn to take a few minutes, go back to a song that you thought sounded too boring, and add some pizzazz! Chords are so easy and versatile that you can transform any song. Online Ratios and Proportions Online Tutors
Online Ratios and Proportions Online Tutors Ratio is the quantitative comparison between quantitates. Proportion is a fixed ratio between two substances. Proportion always maintains a fixed ratio between two fractions. For example, a / b = c / d. It can be written as a : b = c : d. This can also be called as the proportion formula. Proportion in math is defined as the similarity while comparison between two quantities or substances. Example 1: Find the y in the given ratio and proportion 3 : y = 12 : 9. Solution: Here the given proportion is 3 : y = 12 : 9. It can be expressed as a fraction in the form. 3 / y = 12 / 9 Now multiply both sides of the equation by y. This gives 3 = 12 y / 9. Now multiply both sides of the equation by 9. This gives 12 y = 27. Now divide both sides of the equation by 12. So y = 27/12. Hence the value of y for the given proportion = 9/4. Example 2: Find the x in the proportion x : 5 = 1 : 2. Solution: Here the given proportion is x : 5 = 1 : 2. It can be expressed as a fraction in the form. This gives, x / 5 = 1 / 2 Now multiply both sides of the equation by 5. This gives 5 (x/ 5) = (1 / 2) (5). x = 5/2. Hence the value of x for the given proportion is 5/2.
